Mobile Phone Filmmaking Workshop

What is in your pocket? Imagine if your pocket were filled with easily transportable sophisticated filmmaking equipment that you could make films with at any time. Luckily, the mobile in your pocket can do just that! Mobile phone filmmaking is a viable and creative way to visually communicate your ideas, messages, and research. As more communication entities move online, visual communication is increasingly in demand, and academics are encouraged to adapt to these changes. Film Pocket Films’ workshops can help you do this! During April, Film Pocket Films in association with WINGS, offers an exciting series of educational and interactive ‘hands on’ mobile phone filmmaking workshops. By using what you already have in your pocket, you will learn to make your own films that can help you draw more attention to your research.

Over two weeks Film Pocket Films will conduct four workshops of three hours per session. During these workshops you will learn how to communicate ideas in an understandable, clear, and time efficient way by using the mobile phone as a tool of visual communication. You will learn about the different aspects of mobile phone filmmaking, such as how to construct narratives while being aware of your audience, how to practically use the mobile phone as a filming device, and how to use film editing applications and software to complete your films. Once you have learned these skills, you will make your own film about yourself and your research. Your completed film will showcase your research in a creative and visually engaging way, which will then feature on the WINGS website. The skills you will learn are reusable and adaptable. At the end of this course you will be able to apply your mobile phone filmmaking skills to make other short films for your work.

Film Pocket Films is excited to be conducting this workshop for WINGS members, and we look forward to guiding you in creating fantastic mobile phone films!
No prior experience is necessary. You will need to bring a mobile device (smartphone with video capabilities; android, iPhone or a tablet), a laptop with either iMovie or Windows Live Movie Maker, and a cable to connect your laptop to your mobile device.
